Today in C3 we learned how to make some butter. Mrs Moore and Mrs Nelson came in and helped us. 4 students from B1 came and helped us as well because they are butter making experts. We took some cream and put some into a jam jar. Then we put in a pinch of salt. We closed the lid and taped it to the jar so it wouldn't leak. We all had turns at shaking it up and down and sideways for about 10 minutes. We saw it turning yellow and it started to get lumpy like butter. We opened up the lid and poured the watery cream into another container then we got a knife and bread and we spread some butter onto the bread and Mrs Moore poured some hundreds and thousands onto our bread and it turned into fairy bread. Mrs Nelson told us some interesting things about butter. In the olden days people used to cover butter in leaves and a layer of cow dung to make it last longer and be cooler. They also used to bury it in a swamp or in the ground for years. It would taste better after a long time and it would be safe from people wanting to steal it.

Rotary Cowshed Farm
We went to a farm that had a rotary cowshed. The dog was barking at the cows to keep them moving forward onto the merry-go-round thing. Everyone who wanted to was allowed to put cups on the cows. 50 cows at a time can fit on the merry go round platform and when they have finished milking the cups come off all by themselves. They had 720 cows.

Donovan's Chocolates Visit
When we got to Donovan’s chocolate factory we met a person called Cassie and the first thing she showed us was a wheel of melted chocolate and we even tried some! Then she brought us into a special room that she saved for us. Only the people that ran the chocolate factory could walk into the room. Then we got to make our own chocolate plates! Then, Cassie put the chocolate plates in the freezer and when they where done, Cassie showed us a picture of cacao beans and after that, she put on a movie about different flavours of chocolate and even fudge! Then she gave us the chocolate plates.

Agricultural Contractor
We went to a tractor place where a man called Mr Austin kept combine harvesters and tractors. When we got there a man called Scot (who was Mr. Austin assistant showed us around. He let us go in the combine harvester! When our turn was finished we went to Mr. Austin’s assistant and he was telling us about maize and how people sometimes feed maize to the chickens. Maize looks like a kind of sweet corn. And Mr. Austin’s assistant explained that they feed maize to the cows in summer to help them make more milk.

Ice Cream Visit
We went to visit a man called Mr. Zenolli. He worked in a Ice cream factory and bakery. When we got there he told us the rules and then he made some cookies and cream ice cream. Then he finished making some brownies. While he was making the brownie he asked us to guess how many litres of milk he used to make it. Then he told us who the winner was at guessing the closest. We got to eat some of the ice cream that he made and it was really nice. We got to eat some brownie as well. Mr Zenolli was very funny and very kind. By Olivia & Summer
McDonalds Visit
At McDonald’s we got to make our own ice cream out of the machine. The ice creams were yum and Taylor’s and Matthew’s were the biggest. Everyone was so full after they finished their ice creams. Some of us felt sick and tired after all that ice cream. By Quinn & Taylor
Cooks Farm
When we first got to Cambridge we went to a farm. The people were Mrs and Mr Cook. We saw the calves drinking milk. Then we had a treasure hunt and one puzzle was hidden in the cups that go on the cows. Then Mr Hanna took us on a motorbike ride and told us that the farm has 26 paddocks and it takes the cows about 26 days to go all the way around the farm. We saw a baby calf that was only 2 days old and we got to see it get milk out of a bottle. When it is first born it is fed yellow milk called colostrum and then it starts drinking normal milk like we do. Cows are only 2 years old when they get pregnant and start to make milk themselves. Some cows can live till they are 22 years old. We saw the cows getting milked. The machine made funny noises. We got to put our fingers up the cup to feel the sucking and it felt funny.
